Trait # 8: Wonder Women are willing to develop a circle of support, ask for, give AND receive help.

Dear Ones,

Women have always tended to work shoulder to shoulder, but seldom do we reach out to one another, especially when vulnerable and needing help or sup-port. That is when we go ‘Lone Ranger.’ We push through. We don’t want to reveal our short-comings for fear we will be perceived as weak. We hide out and do everything we can to conceal our ‘not-enoughness.’

Women also often say YES when they mean NO and take on more and more to the point of overwhelm. We have come to believe there is greater merit if we struggle, and if we don’t meet the expectations of others we feel we have failed, become our own worst critics and carry impossible burdens of guilt. Our sense of worth is weary.

Long ago and for centuries since women have been taught that it is far better to give than receive. We in fact were convinced that it was our duty to serve and that to receive in any form was selfish.

Don’t get me wrong. Giving is a powerful gift that fills our own heart, too, however the truth is that it is equally important to receive. We expand our compassion through this reciprocity. When we refuse to receive gratefully we deprive the giver of the joy they will feel, and vice-versa.

More and more women are becoming aware of the power of connection and re-alizing that being vulnerable is not weakness, but in fact a most courageous act.

True Wonder Women are willing to develop a circle of support, ask for, give AND receive help. The most resilient Wonder Women know how to reach out for help and see the wisdom in the joined energy. As we give we become stronger AND as we receive… truly receive… we also become stronger.

There is nothing more powerful than women who come together on common ground not as victims, but to encourage mutual empowerment. They reach out to those who will hold them in their greatness even when circumstances are overwhelming, and avoid those who are demeaning and determined to keep them small.

Give. Receive. Connect. Soar.

Joy-fully,
